Shortly after the release of Spiderman 3 there was already a buzz in the industry about a fourth film that was set to begin pre-production shortly. This was dubbed Spiderman 4 and the great director, Sam Raimi, from the previous films was set to once again lead the franchise. Other members of the cast also agreed to do the film and were reported to have already signed contracts for the fourth film and three others.
However, in January of 2010, Raimi decided to back out of the project saying that he didn’t think he would be able to uphold a quality film project with the creativity expected with a deadline so near (a year and a couple months). This led to the cancellation of the entire project by Sony Pictures and ended the Spiderman saga as fans had come to know it.
Nevertheless, Sony did announce that they would be “rebooting” the project in 2012. This means that fans don’t need to despair, too much at least. This reboot will have an entirely new feel to it as the directors have changed and the cast will likely be completely different. The premier of this “rebooted” Spiderman is scheduled to happen on July 3rd, 2012. There will also likely be a change in cast after a film or two with the new picture as the star is Andrew Garfield who is already twenty-seven and won’t likely be able to pull off the high school look much longer.
